BIG-PLAY HAYTI BLITZES NMCC FOOTBALL 68-14 IN BATTLE OF UNBEATENS

It was a matchup between two undefeated teams on Friday night at Hayti High School, as the Indians cruised to a 68-14 victory over New Madrid County Central. Quarterback Chrivontae Moore was all over the field for Hayti as he excelled in both passing and running the football. He finished with 239 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns as well. With the speed that Hayti possesses, all it needs is one block, and they’re off to the races. That was the case in the second quarter, as Moore stepped back to throw and hit Tylor Wooden in the backfield, who then ran for a 95-yard score. Indiana-commit Ivory Winters also had another excellent game, rushing for 146 yards and three touchdowns — including one from 54 yards out. Winters also set the tone early, as he took the opening kickoff 78 yards to the house for the first score of the game. “Ivory’s a special kid,” Hayti head coach Dominique Robinson said. “He don’t ask for the ball. He just wants to be a part of the team and have fun. He’s one of those kids when you give him the ball; he’s going to make something happen for you.” It was a special week, off the field, for the Indians as well, as Robinson welcomed in a child. Robinson said after the game that preparing for NMCC was different because of the child, but credited his coaching staff for keeping his team sharp. “Those guys prepared these guys for the night, and the end result was based on what they put out for us,” Robinson said. “This whole week they had them focused and dialed in and kept them ready for the night. That’s why we were able to come out and play good football tonight.” Defensively, the Indians were stout, holding the Eagles to just 20 yards rushing on the night. Quickness and athleticism are two things that are unteachable, and for NMCC head coach Tyler Fullhart, that is what Hayti was able to do. Quazavion Jackson finished with 13 carries for 28 yards, as Hayti was able to zone in and weaken one of the Eagles top weapons. “They were able to contain Q,” Fullhart said. “Their speed, it’s hard to battle with the speed that they have, and you add some physicality with that, and you got yourself a winning product.” After Hayti scored on its first two possessions of the game, making it 16-0, NMCC did make it interesting. The Eagles returned the ensuing kickoff to the house from 85 yards out. Austin Davis hyped the NMCC crowd for a moment, as he was able to get to the edge of the field and break free from there. “It was good to see that because we’ve been really working our kickoff returns, trying to get it better,” Fullhart said. “To see Austin break it and especially after they kind of stole the momentum real quick and then we were able to score. We had some good blocks on that, so I mean it wasn’t just the run, it was some good blocks and some good execution, so that’s definitely something we’ll use moving forward.” Hayti hosts Malden in Week 5 action, while NMCC takes on Kennett in a key SEMO South matchup.
