NMCC IS LOOKING TO STOP LOSING STREAK
NMCC at Sikeston
Records: NMCC 4-3; Sikeston 3-4
Series History: Sikeston leads 25-10
Last Meeting: 2017, Sikeston won 49-6
Last Week: NMCC lost to Potosi 24-18; Sikeston lost to Farmington 24-6
Notes: Sikeston has dominated this series for the last decade, winning the last nine games. In the last seven meetings, the Bulldogs have not allowed more than a touchdown in any of the contests while averaging 41 points a meeting. Both teams will be trying to bounce back after taking tough losses on the road last week. “It is always a good thing to be able to come back in after a loss and try to get back on track. We put an emphasis on getting better daily so that is what our plan is this week. We just want an opportunity to compete,” said NMCC coach Tyler Fullhart. The Eagles feature speed at the skill positions, led by quarterback Christen Phillips. The junior signal caller has completed 57 of 95 passes for 1,110 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for 243 yards and six scores on 40 carries heading into last week’s game against Potosi. His favorite targets are Johnnie Walker, who has 16 catches for 494 yards and seven touchdowns, and Austin Davis, who has 15 catches for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Quazavion Jackson leads the rushing attack with 533 yards on 74 carries before last week. While NMCC is scoring 39 points a game, the Bulldog defense is allowing just 15.3 points per contest. “New Madrid is a much improved team, they are strong up front, well balanced on offense and physical on defense,” said Sikeston coach Kent Gibbs. “Coach Fullhart and his staff have really got their program moving. We will need to correct our mistakes on offense and play great assignment sharp defense.” Sikeston’s offense has struggled, scoring just one touchdown in each of their last two games and averaging just 20.9 yards per game. Sophomore running back Jackson Kuykendall leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 328 yards on 73 carries while junior quarterback Gage Rolwing has gained 281 yards on 62 carries with three touchdowns, while completing 55 of 117 passes for 671 yards — with six touchdowns and five interceptions. “Coach Gibbs does a fantastic job with his team year in and year out so, as always, it'll be a fun challenge,” Fullhart said. “Our guys are looking forward to the challenge and will be ready to roll by Friday.”
