CHARLESTON ROUTS DISTRICT FOE NMCC 75-56, BEHIND BIG NIGHTS FROM BOGAN AND KIMBLE

Coming off a close loss in what many consider their biggest game of the regular season, against rival Sikeston, Charleston head coach Danny Farmer entered Tuesday’s district matchup with New Madrid County Central worried about his team keeping the same level of intensity. Farmer’s concerns quickly dispelled when his team built an early double-digit lead en route to a 75-56 win that will likely carry significant weight in the Class 3, District 1 standings. “I was worried about a letdown,” Farmer said. “This was a very important game. It could be for the number one seed in our district. We talked about that and but we came out and played. “I was happy to see that because we matched their intensity. If we had a letdown, it would have been a much closer game because they played hard as well.” Terridean Bogan and Blessin Kimble both had big nights for the Bluejays, scoring 22 and 21 points respectively. Kimble added a game-high 13 rebounds to the cause to finish with a double-double. He shot 7 of 11 (64 percent) from the floor, all from inside the arc. Bogan was 6 of 15 (40 percent) from the floor, including hitting on four of his 10 3-point attempts while grabbing a pair of steals and assists. As a team Charleston shot 24 of 63 (38 percent), going 18 of 36 from inside the arc and 6 of 27 beyond it. “Kimble in the first half really played great,” Farmer said. “Terridean knocked down some big shots (as well). We’re getting contributions from lots of people, and that’s the identity of this team. “We don’t have that one great guy, but we have a bunch guys who contribute.” Kimble’s 11 first-quarter points helped the Bluejays open on a 19-6 run with the Eagle’s deficit remaining in the double-digits the rest of the way. A 13-point halftime lead expanded to 21 thanks to an 11-3 Charleston run midway through the third quarter. NMCC (5-4) was quick to respond with a run of seven unanswered points to keep the game within striking distance, but the 14-point hole that remained was the closest they would come for the rest of the way. Charleston (8-6) forced 11 steals in the game, and the Eagles were plagued all game long with unforced errors ending many possessions almost as soon as they started. “We played hard and played great defensively,” Farmer said. “Our pressure caused a lot of turnovers. Some of the kids played great. Gillespie came off the bench and gave me some great minutes on offense and defense.” NMCC’s comeback attempt was hampered by leading scorer Thailin Marsh fouling out late in the third quarter. Marsh finished with 14 points, with Kevon Williams’ 10 points leaving him as the only other Eagle in double-digits.
