NMCC BASKETBALL PLAYERS IMPROVING WITH SUMMER CAMP
Middle school and high school basketball players are using their summer to improve their game.
Since May 28, approximately 15 to 20 Central Middle School athletes and 25 to 30 Central High School athletes have honed their skills on the court. Assistant Coach Dontre’ Jenkins said he and the other coaches are pleased with the outstanding attendance and the hard work put in by the students.
“The camp is a way to prepare for the upcoming season and provides a head start for those who showed up. Next fall they will be leaders by example,” Jenkins said.
For middle school students, the coaches concentrated on teaching fundamentals while mixing in fun activities. “We are trying to instill a strong foundation at a young age,” Jenkins said.
The high school players participated in practices much like they will experience in preparation for playing next fall. Jenkins said the athletes worked on defense, shooting skills and putting together plays.
Also, the players took part in the Rib City Shoot Out at Dexter, Mo.
The middle school team placed first in the Junior High Division defeating Poplar Bluff, Dexter, Farmington, West Plains, and Park Hills. With a record of 6-2, the Central High School team also won its division.
The final day of the camp is Friday.
